Anthropic increases latest funding round to $20 billion
According to TechCrunch, US AI startup Anthropic has doubled the volume of its planned venture capital financing from $10 billion to $20 billion. The funding round, which is expected to close soon, could give the company—founded in 2021—a valuation of $350 billion.
Anthropic could go public in 2026
Anthropic is the maker of the popular Claude AI models and the equally popular Claude Code. Due to booming investor interest, the startup reportedly decided to double its funding target. Backers in this round are expected to include Sequoia Capital (which also invested in competitor OpenAI), Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, and investment management firm Coatue.
Reports at the end of last year said Anthropic had hired lawyers to prepare for an IPO. This could reportedly take place later this year. The startup announced a capital increase of $13 billion in September. This made the Claude developer one of the most valuable private companies in the industry, with a valuation of $183 billion.
CEO Amodei impresses at WEF in Davos
Most recently, Anthropic made headlines at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos when CEO Dario Amodei held a public discussion with Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind. Amodei cited impressive company figures. He spoke of a tenfold increase in revenue over the past three years: from zero to $100 million in 2023, to $1 billion in 2024, and to a projected $10 billion in 2025 (we reported).
