LegalTech unicorn Harvey, based in San Francisco, has closed a funding round of $550 million. The company’s valuation has risen to an impressive $15.5 billion. Harvey has developed an operating system for legal and corporate advisory services. Its products optimize workflows in areas such as contract analysis, due diligence, compliance, and litigation, boosting efficiency and value creation.

Harvey aims to Be a Global Partner for Legal Teams

The round was led by Diffusion and Lightspeed Venture Partners. It follows the release of Harvey’s first post-trained open-weight model as well as the launch of Harvey LAB, the Legal Agent Benchmark. With the capital, the scale-up — founded in 2022 — aims to unlock more opportunities to help legal departments, law firms, and professional services firms build a comprehensive, proprietary knowledge base.

Existing investors Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins, a16z, Coatue, Conviction, Elad Gil, Evantic, GIC, Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Verified Capital, and WndrCo are also participating in the funding round. New investors Sapphire Ventures and Whale Rock are joining as well.

Harvey co-founders Winston Weinberg and Gabe Pereyra commented: “The opportunity for companies to expand their competitive advantage through AI has never been greater. Harvey is meant to be the global partner that lawyers and legal teams turn to for exactly that. To achieve this, we want to build and develop the best team in the space to guide and support our clients through the next wave of AI transformation.”

Acquisition of Security Platform Guardrails AI

Global law firms, Fortune 500 companies, and 200,000 lawyers across 2,400 firms worldwide already use Harvey to make faster and smarter decisions. In the DACH region, 129 companies have already adopted the legal AI platform — including leading firms such as Hengeler Müller, Gleiss Lutz, Deutsche Telekom, Bayer, and PwC.

Separately from the funding round, Harvey has also announced the acquisition of Guardrails AI, an AI security platform for AI agents. With this fourth acquisition of the year, the startup aims to advance its work on the reliability of agentic AI.
