Mistral Bets €4 Billion on Homegrown AI Infrastructure to Rival US Tech Giants
French AI company Mistral is investing heavily in building its own data centers in Europe. With an initial debt financing of $830 million (approx. €722 million) and a long-term total budget of four billion euros, the Paris-based company aims to establish a computing capacity of 200 megawatts on the continent by the end of 2027.
The Data Center near Paris
At the center of the current financing round is a facility in Bruyères-le-Châtel, located south of Paris. The data center is set to begin operations before the end of June 2025 and will be equipped with 13,800 top-of-the-line Nvidia chips (GB300). This marks Mistral’s first proprietary infrastructure facility of this scale.
The financing was provided by a consortium of predominantly French banks, including Bpifrance, BNP Paribas, HSBC, and MUFG.
Planned Facility in Sweden
Last month, Mistral already announced a further facility in Sweden. The data center there is set to provide a computing capacity of 23 megawatts and is expected to become operational next year. According to the company, the Swedish facility will generate more than two billion euros in revenue over five years.

Strategy and Objectives
With its infrastructure expansion, Mistral is pursuing a clear strategic direction: the company aims to offer governments, businesses, and research institutions a European alternative to the services of American technology giants such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Google. A key component of its offering is a so-called “full-stack” package that encompasses both AI software and the cloud infrastructure required to run it.
“Advancing the expansion of our infrastructure in Europe is crucial to empowering our customers and ensuring that AI innovation and autonomy remain at the heart of Europe.”

Mistral was most recently valued at just under twelve billion euros, after the company completed an equity financing round of €1.7 billion last year. According to CEO Arthur Mensch, the company is on track to exceed an annual recurring revenue of more than one billion dollars by the end of the year. Slightly more than half of its revenue currently comes from Europe.
