German neobroker Scalable Capital is now letting AI assistants access its customers’ accounts. Under the name “Agentic Investing,” investors can connect their portfolio to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude or Grok and place securities orders by prompt. According to the company, it is the first bank in Europe to open its platform to mainstream AI assistants in this way.

What Works by Prompt

At launch, Scalable Capital says the platform’s core functions are available through the new interface: executing trades, setting up savings plans, managing watchlists and creating price alerts. On top of that comes a native search for stocks, ETFs and derivatives, plus free access to news, real-time quotes and historical price data.

Parts of the company’s own analytics suite, Scalable Insights, are connected as well. AI assistants can pull diversification checks, scenario analyses, allocations by sector or region and risk assessments, then fold them into their own evaluations.

The company lists several sample prompts that map out the territory: a personalized newsletter built from portfolio and watchlist holdings, delivered every trading day; a comparison of a portfolio against a model portfolio on justETF; an export of crypto ETP transactions as a CSV for tax filing; a calculation of the monthly contribution needed to reach a target sum, with the corresponding savings plan order prepared; a change to the limit on an open order; and the construction of an interactive portfolio dashboard with positions, performance and a price chart.

“Agentic Investing is the biggest technological leap in financial technology since internet banking. By opening our platform, we are setting the standard for the interaction between people, AI and capital markets,” says Erik Podzuweit, founder and co-CEO of Scalable Capital.

An MCP Server and a CLI as the Interface

Technically, Scalable Capital offers two routes. One is an MCP server: the Model Context Protocol was originally developed by Anthropic and has since become the standard through which AI assistants connect to outside services. The other is a CLI application, a command-line tool that installs locally on the user’s own device. That variant is aimed mainly at people running AI models locally.

The feature is switched on via the web interface under Profile > Security. The company has published step-by-step setup guides for the common assistants at scalable.capital/agentic-investing. One caveat remains: while the MCP server offers the full range of functions, individual AI assistants may restrict or refuse certain actions under their own policies.

Approval Stays With the User

On the question of control, Scalable Capital points to several safeguards. Agentic Investing can be switched off at any time, existing account and role permissions continue to apply, and a login plus two-factor authentication is required upfront and at recurring intervals. Trades and savings plans must be approved before they execute.

Ahead of every securities transaction, the regulatory ex-ante cost disclosures or key information documents are provided just as they are in the app and on the web, each carrying an individual reference that has to be confirmed. Push notifications, trade confirmations and mailbox messages continue as before, and every action can be reviewed in real time in the customer area. Payments remain available only through the web and the app.

The company also makes clear that the connected third-party AI applications operate independently and outside its control. Answers, recommendations or transactions generated by the AI therefore do not constitute investment advice and are the investor’s own responsibility.

Bitpanda Got There Recently

Scalable Capital is not alone with the idea in the German-speaking market. Vienna-based broker Bitpanda recently launched an MCP server and API integration of its own, bringing agentic trading to its multi-asset platform for the first time. The server runs remotely over HTTP and offers eleven native tools, covering market and portfolio data, staking and earn functions, and order execution. Bitpanda names Claude, OpenClaw, Cursor and Copilot among the possible counterparts.

Access there is governed by an API key whose permissions are defined at creation, for example read-only access to account balances or additional authorization for trades and staking. Validity can be capped at one year and optionally restricted to specific IP addresses. Bitpanda’s agents do not act on their own either: purchases and sales run through a two-step request-for-quote process in which the assistant first obtains a price quote that the user has to confirm explicitly.

More AI Features to Come

For Scalable Capital, Agentic Investing continues an existing AI offering. Since last year, the company has run an AI-powered chatbot called “Insights” directly inside its app, answering financial questions and delivering real-time analysis. The new interface is set to expand further, with AI planned for additional areas of the platform.

Scalable Capital was founded in 2014 and employs more than 800 people across Munich, Berlin, Vienna and Milan. By its own account, the platform now holds more than 60 billion euros for over a million customers. Through the European Investor Exchange, the company also operates its own exchange for retail investors.
