BOOKR Kids, an education technology company based in Budapest, has closed a Series A round of 6.1 million euros. The round is led by TCEE Fund IV, which is advised by 3TS Capital Partners. According to the company, the transaction combines a primary investment, the purchase of existing shares and the conversion of financing instruments already issued. A group of strategic and international investors is also taking part.
BOOKR Kids builds a digital reading and language-learning platform for schools and families. Its core product is BOOKR Class, a library of animated, interactive children’s books structured around common curricula. Children read and listen to the stories with native-speaker narration, tap individual words to get their meaning and pronunciation, and then work through exercises on vocabulary, grammar, speaking and reading comprehension. Teachers assign books and tasks as homework and follow a dashboard showing who has read how much and where the gaps are. The product sells mainly as an annual licence to schools and school districts, and as a subscription to parents. The bulk of the business is English as a foreign language, alongside German as a learning language and first-language literacy in Hungarian.
Joining the lead investor are Leib Lurie of the US literacy nonprofit Kids Read Now; Robert Iskander, chairman and CEO of education data provider SchoolDay; Infinit Capital Oy, the Koponen family’s Finnish investment vehicle; and Hungarian angel investor and Billingo CEO Albert Sárospataki through the FusionWise angel syndicate.
The Lead Investor and Its Erste Group Link
3TS Capital Partners is a technology investor focused on Central and Eastern Europe, with more than 400 million euros under management across its previous funds. For its current fund, which targets 150 million euros, 3TS secured backers including Erste Group, the European Investment Fund (EIF) and Finnish state investor Tesi, as Trending Topics reported. Earlier holdings of the firm include Tresorit, LogMeIn and Avangate.
600,000 Paying Students in More Than 30 Countries
BOOKR Kids was founded in Budapest in 2015 and now operates in more than 30 countries, according to its own figures. Some 600,000 paying students at over 3,000 schools use BOOKR Class, with core markets in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas. The platform holds thousands of interactive, curriculum-based digital books and more than 50,000 learning activities, the company says.
The content sits on two separate layers. The books for children are created by writers, illustrators, dramaturgs, psychologists and educators, and voiced by native speakers. Generative AI is concentrated in the teacher environment: Teacher Support AI delivers diagnostic learning pathways aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference, curriculum mapping, learning-data analysis and teaching materials. Children see only tightly bounded, age-appropriate functionality, the company says, built around privacy-by-design and the child-safety principles of the EU AI Act.
Alongside the funding round, BOOKR launched a new Teacher Dashboard that brings curriculum alignment, data-informed differentiation and progress analytics into one place. Also in development is an AI-driven, multi-adaptive system for language placement and proficiency assessment, supported by a non-repayable EU grant of 662,000 euros.
Research Findings and Business Figures
The company points to several effectiveness studies. University-led research in Hungary found that students working with the interactive format developed reading comprehension 20 percent more strongly than the control group. In a pilot in Jordan, the treatment group improved by 1.08 points while the comparison group declined by 0.47 points (p<0.001), with heavier usage associated with larger gains.
BOOKR reports revenue of roughly 2.7 million US dollars for 2025 and describes itself as EBITDA-positive. Its recognition includes the Bett Awards, repeated appearances in HolonIQ’s Europe EdTech rankings, inclusion in the EdTech Insiders K-12 AI landscape and the highest evidence rating in UNICEF’s assessment framework for EdTech solutions.

“Depth Over Speed”
CEO and co-founder Dr. Dorka Horváth frames the thesis behind the product this way: “The next generation will not compete with AI on speed. They will need to compete on depth: comprehension, curiosity, judgement and the ability to ask better questions.” In a world saturated by generative systems, the company argues, reading comprehension gains importance, because learners need background knowledge, the ability to test an argument and independent judgement to make sense of what AI produces.
From the investor side, Barnabás Vincze, investment manager at 3TS Capital Partners, comments: “BOOKR pairs outstanding content and rigorous pedagogy with something few companies from our region achieve: a genuinely international business.”
