Osmund Energy: Danish Startup Exits Stealth With 1 Million Euros From PSV Tech

The founders picked the moment deliberately. Just as the startup conference TechBBQ opens its doors in Copenhagen today, with around 10,000 attendees expected this year, Danish energy startup os.energy is stepping out of stealth. It brings along its first product, called Osmund, a kind of digital electricity retailer, plus a pre-seed investment of one million euros from Danish early-stage investor PSV Tech.
Two founders from the tech scene are behind os.energy. Niklas Allamand Dib previously built the platform Bodil.energy, which helped homeowners swap oil and gas boilers for heat pumps and install batteries and solar panels. Maziar Zamani was founding CTO of Danish motion capture company Rokoko, and before that worked as an electrician and later as an engineer in robotics and automation. Since last year, the two say, they have been quietly building their own energy platform, including their own supplier license.
No Markup on Consumption
The promise Osmund is launching with is unusual for the industry: according to the company, it adds no margin to its customers’ electricity consumption. Power is passed on at cost, meaning the price the company pays to deliver it to the customer’s address.
There are two tariffs at launch. With Osmund Åben (“Open”), households pay exactly the procurement price, and the accompanying app is an optional add-on at 13 Danish kroner per month. With Osmund Rolig (“Calm”), customers get spot-price electricity with a single flat monthly fee that includes the app. The business model therefore rests entirely on the flat fees and the software, not on the electricity sold.
“Our incentive is the opposite of the industry’s. A classic energy retailer earns more the more electricity its customers use,” co-founder and CEO Niklas Allamand Dib says in the announcement. The company earns not a single øre on consumption, he says, but makes a modest income on flat subscriptions and an app meant to help customers understand and reduce their usage.
A Power Bill You Can Talk To
The second selling point is the experience. In the app, customers can ask questions in plain language, such as why the bill is higher in a given month or how standby consumption has developed over the year. The answers, the company says, come as visual explanations drawn from a purpose-built widget library modeled on Apple Health, rather than as PDFs or a phone queue.
“Energy retailers have spent years competing on looking cheap instead of being transparent and digitally engaging,” says co-founder and CTO Maziar Zamani. Because the company has nothing to hide, he argues, it can let AI models loose in its own app to explain what is happening in the power market and on the bill.
Automated From Day One
The technical foundation is the os.energy platform, which covers the retailer’s entire operation, from market data and settlement to data science and customer service. That, Zamani argues, is precisely what makes it possible to run an energy company with a very small team: “A typical electricity retailer doesn’t produce power, it produces bills.”
In the medium term, revenue is meant to come from services around flexible consumption, which the founders call New Energy: smart control of EVs, heat pumps and home batteries. The reasoning behind it is that wind and solar fluctuate with the weather, so the flexibility the grid needs will have to come from the consumption side. Osmund is already experimenting with automated EV charging at times when prices are low and the share of renewable generation is high, and a product called Osmund Balance has been announced.
The Investor
PSV Tech is leading the pre-seed round. “As venture investors, we look for experienced teams with domain expertise and a mission to transform entire industries with AI,” says Sebastian von Wildenrath Wegmann, principal investor at PSV Tech and board member at os.energy. The team, he says, has shown it can acquire and serve electricity customers at a marginal operating cost close to zero.
The brand is operated by os.energy ApS, headquartered in Copenhagen and holding a Danish supplier license. Osmund is available now at osmundenergi.dk and listed on the Danish price comparison portal elpris.dk.
