Revolut Adds ChatGPT Go — The Third AI Provider in Its Subscription Bundle
It has become an established route to reaching large numbers of consumers quickly: Revolut is adding ChatGPT Go to its subscription bundle. Within the space of a few months, that makes it the third AI provider to gain access to European consumers via the neobank — and an indication of how the industry is trying to solve its growth problem outside the US.
The partnership with OpenAI, announced on 30 July, gives Revolut’s retail customers time-limited free access to ChatGPT Go (normally around €8 a month), the cheapest paid ChatGPT plan. Ultra customers get twelve months plus a twelve-month Buddy Pass, Metal likewise twelve months, Premium and Revolut Pro six months, and Plus and Standard three months as part of a promotion. The offer applies immediately to the paid plans; Plus and Standard are due to follow in the coming weeks. Compared with the free tier, ChatGPT Go offers higher usage limits, more file uploads, document analysis, image generation and memory features.
Revolut puts its customer base at more than 75 million; OpenAI says close to a billion people use ChatGPT each week. Neither side is disclosing the terms of the deal — revenue share, compensation or duration.
The pattern
This is not a one-off but follows a template that now appears three times over in Revolut’s subscription bundle. Perplexity has been part of the package for some time: Perplexity Pro is included for twelve months on the Premium plan and for 24 months on Metal and Ultra — though on Premium only for users who have never been Pro customers before. Anyone who wants to keep the access has to add a payment method to their Perplexity account.
It works similarly with the Swedish vibe-coding provider Lovable: Premium, Metal and Ultra customers get twelve months of Lovable Lite plus a one-off 100 credits. Through the business product Revolut Pro, there are first six months of Lovable Pro and then twelve months of Lovable Lite, available in the UK and in those EEA countries where Revolut Pro is offered.
Alongside these sit around a dozen non-AI subscriptions from media, fitness and lifestyle, among them Financial Times Premium Digital, WeWork, MasterClass, NordVPN Complete, Headspace, Sleep Cycle, Freeletics, Picsart Pro, The Athletic, ClassPass, Chess.com, Wolt+, Headway Premium and Tinder Gold. Revolut puts the combined value of all subscriptions included in the Ultra plan at €4,100 a year.
The mechanics
For consumer software providers, customer acquisition is the single most expensive item. A subscriber won through search or social ads costs a considerable amount — with uncertain retention. A bundling deal shifts that calculation: instead of advertising budget, product margin is what flows out, and only for users who actually activate the offer. The product appears inside an app that many customers open regularly anyway, and it reaches an identity-verified, solvent audience.
The return channel is built in as well. According to Revolut’s own help pages, Premium customers are automatically moved onto a paid ChatGPT plan once the benefit period ends, unless they switch off auto-renewal beforehand. The free phase thus functions as an extended trial with an opt-out — the same logic Perplexity secures through its requirement for a payment method on file.
The model has been tried and tested outside Europe for years, above all via telcos. Bharti Airtel, for instance, gave its roughly 360 million customers in India twelve months of Perplexity Pro free of charge, and the operator Magenta has a similar partnership with Perplexity in Austria. Banks and mobile carriers make suitable partners because they bring large, verified user bases and an existing billing channel.
In Europe there is an added structural factor: no AI provider has its own consumer platform here with reach comparable to what Google or Apple command in the US and globally. Anyone wanting to reach European consumers has to buy access through third parties — and Revolut is one of the few pan-European channels with a user base in the tens of millions and a regulatory footing inside the EEA. Revolut Bank UAB is licensed in Lithuania and supervised by the Bank of Lithuania and the ECB.
What’s in it for Revolut
The subscription plans are a revenue source with predictable recurring income for Revolut. The denser the bundle of included services, the higher the barrier to switching to a competing offer — the subscriptions work as a retention instrument. At the same time, the positioning shifts: a bank with added extras becomes a distribution channel.
