“ClawBot”: Chinese Tencent Connects OpenClaw to its Super-App WeChat
Chinese internet giant Tencent has completed a direct integration of the AI agent OpenClaw into its messaging platform WeChat (known in China as Weixin) with the launch of the so-called WeixinClawBot. Users will now be able to communicate directly with the AI agent through WeChat’s familiar chat interface, just as if they were writing to a contact.
What is the WeixinClawBot?
The WeixinClawBot allows WeChat users to use OpenClaw as a dedicated messaging channel within the app. Messages can be sent and received without leaving the platform. Tencent describes the integration as an officially opened interface that grants third-party providers such as OpenClaw access to the WeChat ecosystem.
“Today, we are officially opening the capability to integrate OpenClaw into Weixin. With the launch of the WeixinClawBot, users can use Weixin as a dedicated messaging channel for OpenClaw. Now, you can send and receive messages with OpenClaw just like texting a friend.”
With this move, Tencent positions itself as a platform provider for AI agent services within one of China’s most widely used communication networks. WeChat has an extraordinarily large user base and is deeply embedded in everyday Chinese life, spanning personal communication, payment services, and mini-programs for businesses.
Background: Tencent’s Push into the AI Agent Market
The integration comes at a time when the Chinese AI agent market is growing rapidly and competition among major technology companies is intensifying. Alongside Tencent, Baidu and Alibaba are also advancing their own AI initiatives. The WeixinClawBot is part of a broader strategy to embed AI-powered services more deeply into the WeChat ecosystem, for both consumers and businesses.
Tencent generated total revenue of 751.8 billion CNY and a net profit of 224.8 billion CNY in fiscal year 2025. Nevertheless, the company’s stock (SEHK: 700) is under pressure: the share price currently stands at around HK$508 and has lost approximately 18.5 percent of its value since the beginning of the year. Against this backdrop, investors are closely watching the company’s AI initiatives.
China’s Tech Companies Fully on Board with OpenClaw
The WeixinClawBot provides a concrete reference point for tracking Tencent’s AI strategy in practice. What will be decisive is whether the integration leads to a measurable increase in usage intensity and whether new revenue streams emerge in the areas of advertising, fintech, or subscription services. Connecting an external AI agent like OpenClaw goes beyond Tencent’s previous in-house developments and points to a more open platform strategy.
Chinese tech companies have already fully jumped on the OpenClaw bandwagon. In addition to developments at Tencent, the following companies are embracing the AI agent:
- Alibaba has released an app called JVS Claw that makes it very easy to set up and use OpenClaw. The AI agent can also be configured via Alibaba Cloud
- Xiaomi is positioning its new AI model MiMo-V2-Pro as the “brain for OpenClaw“
- Zhipu AI has launched “GLM-5 Turbo“, its first AI model built specifically for OpenClaw
