Not long ago the open question was whether bitcoin would clear $70,000, and shortly after that it was $75,000. Now the price is hovering around $80,000, roughly 1.5 percent above where it stood 24 hours earlier. The move has carried crypto equities with it: Strategy (MSTR) gained more than four percent, Strive Asset Management (ASST) six percent, and Coinbase (COIN) three percent. The rally coincides with the opening of the Federal Reserve’s Jackson Hole symposium, where the new Fed chair, Kevin Warsh, delivers his first keynote in that role on Friday.

The Market in Numbers

The move extends well beyond bitcoin, across the major cryptocurrencies. The snapshot below leaves out the stablecoins USDT and USDC as well as staked and wrapped derivatives such as stETH:

Coin Price 24 hours 7 days
Bitcoin (BTC) $79,415 +1.5% +10.6%
Ethereum (ETH) $2,501 +1.8% +9.7%
BNB $707 +0.9% +10.3%
XRP $1.42 +0.9% +19.7%
Solana (SOL) $103.79 +7.3% +19.6%
TRON (TRX) $0.34 +0.1% -0.4%
Hyperliquid (HYPE) $81.91 +0.1% +15.0%
Dogecoin (DOGE) $0.0883 +2.2% +15.1%
Zcash (ZEC) $779.63 -0.4% +38.1%

Eight Straight Days of ETF Inflows

Institutional money is doing the heavy lifting. U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs most recently took in about $232 million in net inflows, an eighth consecutive session of buying. Across the full run, roughly $2.8 billion has moved into the funds, according to SoSoValue data. Ether ETFs are on the same day count, adding about $192 million in the latest session and pushing their own streak past $1 billion. Smaller altcoin products followed suit: XRP funds drew $28 million, HYPE products $15 million, and Solana $9 million.

That puts inflows into the bitcoin funds above $3 billion for the month, the strongest stretch of 2026 and roughly double the April figure. Net assets stood just above $99 billion recently, compared with about $77 billion in the middle of the month. Most of that $22 billion increase came from price gains, with a smaller share from fresh capital. BlackRock’s IBIT is absorbing the bulk of it, taking around 62 percent of one day’s total and about $1.3 billion over the past week.

The year as a whole remains in the red: across all bitcoin ETFs, 2026 shows roughly $2.5 billion in net outflows. August has clawed back a little more than half of what left the funds between May and July. Three trading sessions remain in the month, and another $160 million or so would make August the biggest inflow month since October 2025. Why Jackson Hole Matters to Markets

The Economic Policy Symposium is hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and runs from Thursday through Saturday this year. It began in 1978 as a conference on agricultural economics and moved to Wyoming in 1982, partly to draw in the Fed chair of the day, Paul Volcker, a keen fly fisherman. Today it brings together some 120 central bankers, economists, and market participants from more than 70 countries.

What gives the event its pull is its character. Where a regular meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee produces a decision, Wyoming is about the framework, meaning how the central bank reads its own mandate. For asset classes tied closely to global liquidity, bitcoin among them, that is exactly the part that matters.

What to Expect From Warsh

Kevin Warsh has led the Fed since May, confirmed by the Senate in a 58 to 42 vote. His appearance on Friday morning U.S. time is his first Jackson Hole speech in the role, and new chairs traditionally use the slot to lay out how they think.

The pressure on him is considerable. The policy rate sits at 3.50 to 3.75 percent, and the committee has now paused for a fifth consecutive meeting, with three members voting for a 25 basis point increase. The core PCE deflator is stuck at around 3.3 percent, well above the two percent target. The CME FedWatch tool currently prices a roughly 45 percent probability of a rate hike by the December meeting. At the same time, the yield on 30-year Treasuries has touched 5.31 percent, its highest level since 2007.

Warsh has steered clear of forward guidance so far, and several analysts expect him to keep his September options open in Wyoming as well. Gregory Daco, chief economist at EY-Parthenon, told Fox Business there is a tremendous appetite among investors for Warsh to clarify his views on inflation, employment, and policy. MarketWatch frames the speech as his chance to win over both his own colleagues and investors, who so far remain wary of his approach to inflation and his proximity to the White House.

A Theme That Hits Crypto Directly

For the crypto market there is a second channel. This year’s symposium carries the title “Financial Innovation: Implications for Payments and Policy,” putting digital payments and financial technology at the center of the program for the first time, in a slot usually reserved for inflation and interest rates. That places stablecoins, tokenized deposits, supervision under the GENIUS Act, and the Fed’s stance on central bank digital currency on the agenda.

Warsh brings an unusual backstory to that discussion. His ethics filing in the spring showed investments in more than a dozen blockchain protocols and DeFi ventures, positions he divested once he was confirmed. A Fed chair with disclosed crypto holdings in his past is a first.
