Brave New Austrians: How Ukrainians Get Access to the Labor Market in Austria

Tralalobe and Trending Topics have teamed up to create a new European Job Platform that will connect Ukrainian refugees and companies in Austria to build long-term relationships and eventually expanding to cover all of Europe. The Ukrainian refugee crisis has displaced 4.2 million people and highlights the need for solutions to help refugees gain a foothold in their host countries and become self-sustaining.

Tralalobe has been working for years to support refugees, asylum seekers, and other marginalized groups by providing legal advice, housing, psychological support, and language courses in Austria. In August 2022, they launched the Brave Project to provide employment consultancy to Ukrainian refugees, which has already helped hundreds of people find work.

Trending Topics is well-connected with local businesses and has already onboarded over 350 companies and 600 job offers in various industries such as tourism, innovation, and construction. The job platform will be free of charge for European companies to post job opportunities for Ukrainian refugees.

“Feel welcome on the labor market in Austria”

“We want to give all those entitled to protection the chance to feel welcome on the labor market in Austria, to be in charge of their own destiny, and to have as normal a life as possible after the horrors they have experienced,” says Andreas Diendorfer, Tralalobe CEO. Asia Pratsiukova, Brave Project Leader and Ukrainian refugee herself, adds, “As a refugee who felt helpless and lost, I find these initiatives incredibly important and hope to give desperate people in great need a chance to take control of their own lives.”

Bastian Kellhofer, Co-Founder of Trending Topics, says, “We’re starting in Austria, but our goal is to help more refugees affected by instability in their countries. Our initiative has already made a positive impact and we hope to continue to grow and make a difference in the lives of those in need.”

Addressing the employment challenges faced by refugees

This partnership between Tralalobe and Trending Topics brings together a deep understanding of the current state, needs, and expectations of the refugee community and the business world, making it a promising solution to address the employment challenges faced by refugees.

Within the Brave Project, we are launching the campaign `Brave New Austrians`. The series of interviews with our candidates let them tell their stories. The stories of people who run away from the war in Ukraine to Austria and are willing to start a new life. It wasn’t their choice to lose their homeland and entire life, but now they are here, in Austria. And they are willing to be helpful to Austria and integrate into Austrian society by getting jobs and becoming independent and self-supporting.

How we work with refugees & companies

As a first step, we are going to assist Ukrainian refugees and companies in Austria to not only connect with each other but to build long-term relationships. In further, we would like to cover all of Europe and help refugees from any region to get employed.

The Ukrainian refugee crisis is characterized by the particularly rapid displacement of 4.2 million people in the middle of Europe, which is why it is rightly receiving a lot of attention. At the same time, there are numerous other major refugee crises around the world: The Syrian war, for example, has just celebrated its 11th anniversary, as a result of which 6.7 million people had to flee. And Afghanistan has faced more than 40 years of armed conflict that has displaced 2.6 million people. Refugees, regardless of their origin, are generally very interested in gaining a foothold in their host countries, becoming self-sustaining, and building a new future for themselves. Thereby, the demand for solutions to help these people to be employed became the top priority.

Tralalobe and Trending Topics are a great match since both organizations have a deep understanding and clear picture of the current state, needs, and expectations in their fields. Tralalobe has been working for years in support of refugees, LGBTIQ asylum seekers, young adults in education, families, and psychologically stressed people in a first step by providing independent and fair legal advice, sheltered housing, psychological support, and German language learning courses in Austria. In addition, in August 2022 Tralalobe launched the Brave Project to provide consultancy to Ukrainian refugees regarding employment in Austria. Hundreds of Ukrainians got consultancy and legal support during these months, and many of them are already employed.
