While the world is still debating the potential of artificial intelligence, experts in the background are already preparing defenses against the threats posed by these and future technologies. The Czech startup Wultra has now raised €6.8 million in fresh capital to close exactly this gap. Led by Seventure Partners, this financing sends a clear signal to the market: the era of classical encryption is nearing its end.

The Technological Turning Point: Post-Quantum Security

Why are investors like J&T Ventures and Elevator Ventures investing so heavily in a company specializing in “post-quantum authentication”? The answer lies in the looming obsolescence of current security standards.

With the rise of powerful quantum computers, the encryption that forms the foundation of our digital financial system will theoretically become breakable in a very short time. Wultra is already relying on quantum-resistant cryptography. The goal: a security standard that is not only resistant to today’s phishing attacks but also stands up to the computing power of the future.

The Driver: The Rollout of the EU Digital Identity Wallet

A major driver for this funding is the regulatory dynamics within Europe. The European Union is pushing forward with the rollout of the “European Digital Identity Wallet.” This ecosystem is intended to allow citizens to manage their identity securely and digitally across various services.

Wultra is positioning itself as an essential infrastructure provider here. The startup provides the necessary building blocks—from identity proofing during onboarding to secure transaction authorization—ensuring that banks and FinTechs can not only meet the new EU standards but also lead them technologically.

The Fight Against AI-Driven Fraud

In addition to the long-term quantum threat, the industry faces an immediate problem: AI-driven identity fraud. Deepfakes and highly automated social engineering attacks are making it easier than ever for criminals to forge identities.

“Wultra sits precisely at the intersection of innovation and market readiness,” explains Julien Cazor, Venture Partner at Seventure Partners. Investors see the company as a solution that is both “phishing-resistant” and “passwordless”—two crucial features for fending off the growing tide of AI-driven fraud attempts.

A Trend Moving the Market

Wultra’s Series A round is not an isolated case, but part of a massive wave of capital flowing into the European cybersecurity sector. In 2026, over €110 million has already been invested in startups focusing on digital identity, compliance, and cryptographic resilience. Wultra is a prominent player in this highly dynamic growth market.

Outlook: From Prague to the World

The company is already showing impressive metrics: over 70 clients in 25 countries and team growth of nearly 50% over the past year. With the new capital, Wultra plans to expand beyond the European market. Following the establishment of a hub in Singapore, expansion into the Middle East and the United States is now on the agenda.
