The neobank Revolut is now gradually rolling out its first major AI assistant for retail customers with “AI by Revolut“, or AIR for short, across its markets — starting with its home market of the United Kingdom. The chatbot, integrated directly into the app, is designed to help users manage their finances more easily and handle everyday tasks through conversation, without having to navigate through menus.

What is AIR and how does it work?

AIR is a financial assistant embedded in the Revolut app that operates on the basis of artificial intelligence. Users can activate the assistant by swiping downward from the centre of the display on the app’s home screen. Alternatively, AIR can be accessed via the path Profile → Chats → AIR.

The assistant exclusively accesses data that customers can already view within their app, including transactions, investments, and card information. Revolut emphasises that no personal data is stored by third parties or used to train external AI models. The company has not yet disclosed which specific AI providers power AIR.

“We believe the era of navigating through endless tabs and menus is over,” says Julia Ponomareva, Head of CX and AI Products at Revolut.

What can AIR do?

The assistant covers a range of functions related to everyday financial management. An overview:

  • Spending analysis: Insights into personal spending behaviour and budget summaries
  • Investment tracking: Current status of securities and investment portfolios
  • Subscription management: Overview of active subscriptions and their cancellation
  • Card management: Blocking lost cards directly within the chat
  • Travel assistance: Help with travel budget planning and purchasing Revolut eSIMs within the app

Availability: When and where?

AIR was initially rolled out to UK customers. Revolut has announced that it will gradually introduce the assistant in additional countries, without yet specifying concrete dates or a complete list of the next markets. The launch in further regions is set to follow “soon”.

The announcement of an AI assistant dates back to Revolut’s “Revolutionaries” event in November 2024, at which co-founders Nik Storonsky and Vlad Yatsenko presented the vision. In June 2025, UK CEO Francesca Carlesi had indicated that the launch was imminent.

Context: Revolut in the AI race

With AIR, Revolut is entering a growing competitive field in AI-powered financial assistants. British neobank rival Starling Bank had already launched a similar assistant based on Google Gemini just one month earlier. Traditional major banks such as Barclays, NatWest, HSBC, and Lloyds are also increasingly investing in AI partnerships and internal training.

Revolut has built its own internal AI unit, which is working on, among other things, AI-powered voice products, personal assistants, and sales agents. AIR is therefore just the beginning of a broader AI strategy for the company, which is currently valued at around 75 billion US dollars.
