SOMAREALITY: Austrian DeepTech Raises Over €3 Million in Series A
Vienna-based deep tech startup SOMAREALITY has closed an oversubscribed Series A round of more than €3 million. The round is led by Romanian investor Catalyst Romania, marking the 13th investment for its second fund, Catalyst Romania Fund II. Existing investors MT-Lab, RDY Ventures, Moondust Ventures and Gateway Ventures also participated.
According to the company, the fresh capital will go toward three strategic priorities for 2026 and beyond: expanding its existing B2B segments, supporting newly launched longitudinal studies to measure and predict cognitive health and human performance over time, and a brand extension into the B2C market.
What the Vienna startup does
Founded in Vienna in 2019, SOMAREALITY develops algorithms that draw on eye-tracking data to infer cognitive states such as cognitive load, attention, perception, fatigue and overall performance in real time. The company positions itself as what it describes as the world’s first full cognitive insights solution based solely on eye tracking — a non-invasive, real-time alternative to methods like EEG, which have significant limitations outside the lab.
The software is hardware-agnostic and built as a white-box approach that, according to the company, delivers personalised insights after just a few seconds of data. It is offered both as a local integration and as a web-based service; the company is also working on on-chip deployment so the technology can run directly on wearable glasses. After entering the market with its first biomarker (Cognitive Load) in 2024, SOMAREALITY followed up with products around conscious perception, attention measurement and fatigue onset.
The technology is used primarily in high-risk industries such as aviation, healthcare and professional sports, as well as in research. According to the company, it has generated more than €2 million in B2B revenue since its go-to-market in 2024, and more than doubled its revenue in 2025 compared with the previous year.
Capital raised to date
Ahead of the current Series A, SOMAREALITY had already raised capital in several steps. In the first half of 2024, the startup raised €1.5 million before a seed round followed. That seed round was communicated in November 2024 as oversubscribed at a total of €2.6 million and, according to Co-CEO Julia Kern, represented the final closing of the 2024 round. Backers of that round included, among others, Birdhouse Ventures, Gateway Ventures, Startup Wise Guys, FFG and aws. With the newly closed Series A of more than €3 million, total capital raised now rises to roughly €5.6 million.
The investors in the current round
- Catalyst Romania (lead): A pioneer in private equity and venture capital investments in Romania, with its first fund launched in 2012 (via the JEREMIE initiative) and its second fund, Catalyst Romania Fund II, in late 2020. The fund focuses on early-stage and growth capital for young technology companies from Romania and Eastern Europe. For SOMAREALITY, it is Catalyst’s third investment in Central and Eastern Europe outside Romania.
- MT-Lab (existing investor): Medical Technology Lab, an operational holding company focused on healthcare and life sciences companies at the seed and early-growth stage.
- RDY Ventures (existing investor): A Belgian early-stage VC based in Antwerp that backs tech founders even before revenue — writing initial tickets of €100k and providing up to €1 million in follow-on capital.
- Moondust Ventures (existing investor): A VC focused on digital health, MedTech, biotech and deep tech, with a strong emphasis on Central and Eastern Europe.
- Gateway Ventures (existing investor): A Vienna-based VC platform focused on early-stage tech in the DACH region. Its portfolio includes more than 50 startups and two unicorns, with around €30 million in assets under management.
